Interoperable digital infrastructure systems such as My Health Record and Secure Messaging are the solutions to enabling consumers health information to be available at the point of care in a secure and efficient manner. Consumer information generated during appointments with allied health professionals needs to be included in these systems to enable:

  • realisation of the Strengthening Medicare Taskforce recommendations
  • connected multidisciplinary teams
  • higher quality care provision and outcomes
  • more efficient and cost-effective healthcare
  • consumer empowerment and person-centred care.

Yet, much work needs to be done before allied health professional generated clinical information will be available within these government driven solutions to the same extent as other health professionals.
