This document responds to the Royal Commission on Aged Care Quality and Safety consultation paper on redesigning Australia’s aged care system. The Commission’s interim report and the consultation paper called for a “fundamental overhaul” of the aged care system.
Such a redesign is an opportunity to harness the potential of allied health services to improve the quality of care and quality of life in older people.
AHPA argues that allied health professionals have an important role to play in a person-centred approach to aged care and the expertise of allied health professionals in a range of disciplines will be key to providing appropriate and targeted services at all levels of care.
