In our submission to the Department of Health and Aged Care on their ‘A New Program for In-Home Aged Care’ discussion paper, AHPA provided comment on the key themes of the discussion paper while also strongly endorsing the more detailed submissions from our member organisations.
AHPA emphasised it is important that the in-home care pathway for aged care enables consumers to access the allied health care they need in as easy and flexible manner as possible, with those needs assessed and addressed by clinical experts, at any point in the process.
Our submission began from the view that in-home care should be underpinned by the understanding that providing a choice of reablement/restoration is both best for the older person’s functioning and wellbeing, as well as cost efficient in the long run because it reduces over-servicing.
