Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA) joins the Federal Minister for Health, the Hon Greg Hunt MP, and Australian health leaders in supporting the release of the COVIDSafe app, a new mobile phone application designed to help Australians understand if they may have been exposed to COVID-19.
The COVIDSafe app has been created by the Australian Government to allow state and territory public health officials to automate and improve manual contact tracing. Accelerating contact tracing will help us continue to slow the spread of COVID-19 and is an important step towards a reduction in social distancing and other measures.
We encourage all Australians to consider downloading the app so that we can continue to suppress the virus and support the health and wellbeing of our healthcare workforce and vulnerable members of our community. While we recognise that some Australians may have concerns about whether the use of the app might impact on their personal privacy, we take the strong view that our primary focus should be the wellbeing of the whole community and the importance of ending the COVID-19 pandemic.
