Increased access to allied health is essential following COVID lockdowns in aged care

2 December 2020

A special report on COVID-19 in aged care by the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety identified key areas for immediate attention. This included a recommendation that additional Medicare items should be created to increase access to allied health and mental health services for aged care residents to prevent physical and mental deterioration during the pandemic.

The Australian Government has announced funding for a range of measures to increase allied health services under the Medicare Benefits Scheme in response to the Royal Commission’s recommendations.

See below for AHPA’s media release in response to this funding announcement.
