Letter to the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs about the treatment cycle initiative

June 2019

AHPA has written to Darren Chester MP, Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, requesting a delay in the introduction of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) treatment cycle initiative (TCI).

There is currently a lack of guidance available for allied health providers about the implementation of the TCI. There are also aspects of the transition process and referral requirements for DVA clients that need to be worked through. If not addressed, these issues will result in a significant disruption of access to allied health services for veterans. A short delay in implementation would enable a much smoother transition to the new system for both providers and veterans.

Update: AHPA is pleased to report that, after meeting with AHPA’s CEO and hearing our members’ concerns, the Minister agreed to delay the introduction of the TCI until 1 October 2019 as requested. The TCI is now in place and will be reviewed by the DVA in 12 months’ time.
