In AHPA’s submission to the consultation on A New Aged Care Act – The foundations (Consultation paper No. 1) we proposed 16 recommendations that point to the key changes that AHPA submits are necessary for meaningful amendment of the Aged Care Act. These changes will support a high-quality aged care system focused on the individual needs of older people.
The submission emphasises a rights-based approach should be adopted when legislating for the provision of aged care and the importance of reablement for older Australians’ wellbeing whether at home or in a care facility; both factors are consistent with the findings from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.
