In the media: Getting needs-based allied health care into residential aged care

AHPA have contributed to another edition of the Australian Health and Aged Care Resource Guide.

In this article, our Policy and Advocacy Senior Advisor Dr Chris Atmore discusses the current perilous state of aged care, including new limitations emerging from the combination of AN-ACC funding and the introduction of mandatory care minutes for nursing and personal care, but not for allied health.

The article also details the sustainable model for allied health in residential aged care developed by AHPA and our Aged Care Working Group.

Our model:

  • embeds allied health into the aged care team
  • supports the delivery of comprehensive multidisciplinary assessments, care plans and timely reviews.
  • allows access to a range of allied health professionals to meet their assessed needs
  • recognises allied health as part of the aged care workforce in all workforce initiatives.
