About

ASORC is the peak professional body representing Rehabilitation Counsellors throughout Australasia, managing the regulation of registered members and providing education, support and advocacy for the profession.

Rehabilitation Counsellors assist people following onset of illness or injury and people with life-long, acquired or developing disabilities supporting them in relation to co-ordination of needs, assess barriers to participation and identify goals to access work, volunteer, or find education environments to best support them in the workplace.

Vision

To advance the profession of Rehabilitation Counselling through representation, promotion and leadership and to enhance the professional capability of members to deliver service excellence and advocate for human rights and inclusion for all.

Advocacy

Rehabilitation Counselling is a profession that is grounded in human rights and as the peak body ASORC seeks to influence policy direction by actively lobbying on its members’ behalf for reforms that will positively impact the field of rehabilitation counselling, health and human service delivery. We represent the voice of members with regular contributions to government and stakeholder groups, discussion papers, inquiries and submissions to ensure the profession is represented and promoted across all levels of government.

Regulation / Accreditation

Rehabilitation Counselling is a self-regulating profession. ASORC provides accreditation to members who complete:

  • a Masters or Graduate Diploma in Rehabilitation Counselling accredited by ASORC

  • a minimum of 20 hours of continuing professional development annually

Members must also meet all conditions required annually for membership of ASORC and comply with the ASORC Code of Ethics and mandatory professional standards.

ASORC members are recognised by workers’ compensation jurisdictions nationally, enabling members to provide services under those legislations, as well as under the current HWCA Nationally Consistent Approval Framework for Workplace Rehabilitation Providers and It Pays To Care guidelines. Rehabilitation Counsellors must be registered by ASORC to be eligible to provide services under the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
