Allied Health Professions Day 2024
Australia’s health sector ‘stronger together’ with recognition of allied health
Allied Health Professions Australia invites Australia to celebrate the contributions and value of allied health to maintaining the health and wellbeing of all Australians. Allied Health Professions Day is a day for allied health professionals to shine – to celebrate and be celebrated.
This year’s theme ‘Stronger together,’ reinforces the value of working as a collective. Together, allied health is the second largest health workforce in Australia and is a major provider of services across the health, disability, and aged care sectors.
Allied health professionals are university trained experts in providing true multidisciplinary wrap-around care. Health system reform holds much promise for allied health and consumers, with reform finally recognising the value, both economic and clinical, of multidisciplinary team-based care. However, this momentum must be maintained.
“It is vital that allied health professionals are recognised alongside their nursing and medical colleagues for their role in delivering comprehensive healthcare that truly wraps around the consumer,” says AHPA CEO Bronwyn Morris-Donovan.
This Allied Health Professions Day, AHPA calls on the government to stop talking about multidisciplinary team care and bring it to fruition with appropriate funding and implementation planning. Australians deserve access to quality health care where and when they need it, and this will not happen without a significant shift to the prevailing culture of primary care.
“A healthy primary care system is underpinned by a diverse health workforce that is accessible and equitable for all Australians,” Morris-Donovan said.
Allied Health Professions Day will be marked on all AHPA social media channels. A digital kit full of sharable content is available on our website; or you can share your own content with the hashtags #strongertogether and #AHPsDay2024.
