AHPA Response table for implementation report on Royal Commission recommendations

AHPA provided the Department of Health and Aged Care feedback on the steps taken to implement recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety Final Report.

The feedback to the Department from AHPA and our Aged Care Working Group on many of the Royal Commission recommendation actions is that the Department has consistently not considered, not consulted, or inadequately provided for the work that allied health professions perform in aged care to help maintain or improve the quality of life for residents in aged care.

The Royal Commission was clear in how important allied health is to the wellbeing of older Australians in residential aged care and it is disappointing to see this has not been picked up by the Department when formulating actions in response to the Royal Commission.
