This document presents AHPA’s feedback to the Department of Social Services (DSS) on the National Disability Strategy position paper. The new National Disability Strategy will replace Australia’s National Disability Strategy (2010-2020).
Since the last Strategy was introduced, service and support systems for people with disability have changed significantly with the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and disability reform across all levels of government.
Many allied health professionals provide services to people with disability, including NDIS participants. Allied health professionals also work in sectors such as education, mental health and aged care where they may be involved in supporting people with disability. The breadth of work undertaken by allied health professionals in across schemes and sectors provides a unique insight into the challenges experienced by people with disability.
