Senate Community Affairs Legislation Committee Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment

AHPA made a submission to the Senate Community Affairs Legislation Committee Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Improving Supports for At Risk Participants) Bill 2021.

AHPA supports strong protections for NDIS participants from abuse and other forms of harmful non-compliance by providers and other relevant persons. We therefore support many aspects of the Bill, but we also contend that some of the proposed changes do not go far enough. In particular, we are concerned that the Bill will not improve the approach of the present legislation which does not hold all NDIS providers to the same standards. As we have previously submitted, providers of supports under a self-managed plan are not required to be registered with the NDIS, meaning that the more rigorous standards associated with registration do not apply to those providers.

AHPA appeared before the Community Affairs Legislation Committee on 2 August 2021 (pages 11-15)
